Information on Hahn AB F-4's

I posted this earlier but have received no response yet. I am hoping someone can give me some guidance on where to find a listing of tail numbers of all F-4's assigned to the 10th TFS at Hahn Air Bas during the 1966 - 1969 timeframe. Thanks!

DrJim,

I recently read your post and inquiry into searching for 1960's Hahn based Phantoms. Though I cannot give you a full list of 10th TFS aircraft from that time period, I can offer you info on one particular F-4 that apparently did. F-4D, serial #65-0749, was assigned to Hahn (USAFE) in December 1966. This is a fun and interesting note, because tail #749 is still with us, flying with the Collings Foundation. Came across this in an article of an older Phantom Society Smoke Trails Issue. Hope you get this reply and it's of some Help. Kevin

One quick note... My apologies, but I didn't/ couldn't confirm presently that #749 was assigned to the 10th TFS. Only that she was recorded as a part of the 50th TFW during the same time period at Hahn. Perhaps another Phantom Phan can shed some light on that. Question... How many squadrons were there attached to the 50th from 66-69? Many Phantoms were headed to or involved in SEA during that time... Kevin

Squadrons attached t the 50th

Kevin,

Thanks for your response.  I was at Hahn 66-69. I was in the 10th TFS and 350th MMS.  There were 3 squadrons there at the time -- 10th, 81st, and 496th....Jim

Jim,

There is a book, I thought I had it, that covers USAFE Phantoms... I will continue to search for that book, because I'm sure it will have a little bit more info in it covering some of the F-4s that were assigned to Hahn around that same time. If I come across anything else, I will be sure to post and share. So check back occasionally. Thank you for your service! All the best. Kevin

Hahn based Phantoms

I'm new here. I am perhaps aggressive in this. My knowledge of Hahn comes from 1980 when F-16's were being based there. I had been supporting F-15's at Bitburg and was on my way to developing the Rapid Deployment Force. In 1969 McDonnell took over Douglas and created a merger. As part of that I received a computer model included in the FX (ne 15 later) of F4J vs F4J simulated combat and began my journey with the F-4. I attended Navy Fighter Weapons School as a civilian and graduated with a patch and a coffee mug from the mess. I attended a AIAA Fighter Conference where Colonel Robin Olds was the dinner speaker. I earlier had read the "Operation Bolo" report by his squadron. I have his book "Fighter Pilot" and just learned he died in 2007 .  Why did I leave the fold? Sometime in the 80's a Selfridge based A-7 lost poer and after ejection crashed into a Ramada Inn and a Phantom widow sued the Air Force.  Today I am facing a laser TURP to relieve symptoms for a positive Biopsy Gleason 7/8 of  Prostate Cancer and 12 out of 12 needles and external beam radiation on hold until that heals. My grandson just asked for all my 1/200 diecast models and I included a USAF 1/100 model which just happend to be 40289 that Robon OLds flew and I could not find the FG code online but now know is a clone at Dayton USAF museum.( It says Col. Olds in tiny text on the nose. The only total list of an aircraft type I have ever seen is for RB and EB 66's in 1967 that mostly were in storage in Davis-Monthan to chose candidtates to become EB-66E's with the EA-6B ECM pods and passive system and antennas that also went into the EF-111"Sprark Vark.) My college roomate was a project officer on the LGB at Eglin that became Paveway. An ILS laser on a Cessna was first used on that project to place the spots.
